Design and Technical Notes: The Z'dain Custom was a high performance mobile suit based on the MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom and the Technical specifications of mobile suits such as the Hyaku Shiki and Rick Dias. The Z'dain Custom was designed by Alasdair Z'dain, who had become an employee of Anaheim Electronics after the One Year War. The Unit was designed to deal with some of the short comings of the Original Gouf Custom, by increasing its reactor output, which was simple with the advancements over the years.
The experimental reactor was built similar to the ones used in the RMS-099 Rick Dias, and based on the process of a 'Deuterion Battery'. This new and experimental system functioned like a battery, with the deuterion storing the power coming from the nuclear engine and converting it into electricity, putting the reactor in a constant state of recharge. This didn't grant the Custom more power output but drastically increased its operation time and operation time of beam weapons that drew power from the reactor. It also featured a flight pack based on initial designs for the thruster set up of the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki.
The increased reactor output and onboard thrusters and standard issue flight pack removed the Gouf's biggest short coming, a lack of flight/space capability. Granting the MSN-07B-X more maneuverability then a Rick Dias but was considered inferior to the Hyaku Shiki as it lacked the Hyaku Shiki's reactor power output. This was not considered a fault however as it still out preformed most mass produced and even some limited run high performance units.
The Z'dain Custom also had increased long and short range capabilities over the original Zeonic Goufs. Advances in weapons technology and access to Anaheim Electronics resources permitted the MSN-07B-X to be designed with two four barreled beam guns, one on each arm. These replaced the one three barreled 35mm machine gun mounted on the left arm. These beam guns drew power from the suits reactor, the Deuterion battery effect of which permitted the guns to operate longer then battery powered beam weapons.
Also mounted on each arm was a "Slayer" Heat Rod/Whip similar to the heat rod of the original type A Gouf. Due to advances in the technology the Heat Whip was of equal strength to the original but half as thick and thus twice as long. The inclusion of two whips allowed the Mobile Suit to attack two targets ant once, and preform 360o spinning attacks when surrounded. The shocks produced from the whip could overload a mobile suit, much like the Heat Wire of the MS-07B-3.
The MSN-07B-X replaced the MS-07B-3's Gatling Shield with a larger more combat oriented shield. The shield was roughly 15% larger then the Gouf Customs shield and featured a more aggressive sharpened look, and featured two large spikes that could allow the shield to be used offensively. The edges of the shield were sharp enough to be used as an effective weapon should the need arise. The shield also housed an advanced beam sword, which was based somewhat on the old superheated weapons of the One Year War.
The Sword was based on advancements over the years on Beam Based melee weapons. The sword collapses to a size a little smaller then the old Type D III saber. When activated it un-collapsed to be just under twice the length of the shield. A field of energy identical to that used in beam sabers then forms around the blade, granting it both an energy and physical blade for slicing. The Beam Sword was on par of the beam sabers of current age units. In conjunction with this however the MSN-07B-X carries two beam sabers similar to the ones on the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki on recharge racks on its waist armor. In keeping with its close range combat heritage the standard hand weapon of the GOUF was a custom built "Beam Shot Rifle". Instead of firing a long ranged single beam the blast spread into several smaller beams over a shorter distance with a power rating of 3.5 MW. With a simple command the rifle could fire single beams at greater range, but the power rating dropped to 2.8 MW. The weapon in either mode had a shorter range then the XBR-M87A2 rifle, and less power at longer range, but was a much more versatile weapon. Just as the Gouf was a more versatile Mobile Suit.
The MSN-07B-X Guardian Of Universal Freedoms biggest asset however was its variable use combat packs. While the standard pack was the X19a Flight Pack the GOUF was capable of utilising several other packs including a Combat Support Pack, Fire Support Pack, and Underwater Support Pack.
Cockpit: The cockpit of the MSN-07B-X is of a slightly different design then the Panoramic/Linear seat cockpits of the Hyaku Shiki and Zeta Gundam that the suit shares designs with. Instead of a spherical like surface covered by a continuing screen the cockpit of the MSN-07B-X has three large screens one to the front and one to each side. along with this are nine smaller screens that can be customized to display a number. Alasdair, the suits pilot, generally had the bottom center screen displaying the rear camera, the bottom screens screens displaying Reactor Power levels/ ammo, sensors, and thruster levels and altitude data. The three top displays generally showed communications channels, one to his coordinator, and two dedicated to team mates.
The Cockpits controls were extensive, with numerous foot controls and hand controls for leg, arm, and weapon operation. A keyboard and touch screen with stylus allowed for operating system changes and graphical data to be displayed. The screen could also act as a quick system select screen. And over the shoulder targeting system allowed the MSN-07B-X to engage targets at long range and use compatible sniper weaponry.
History:
Note: Unlike previous models the term GOUF stood for an acronym created by Alasdair Z'dain Guardian Of Universal Freedoms. This represented the MSN-07B-X's purpose and the drive of the creator and pilot. Z'dain, once a combat specialist for the Principality of Zeon, had whitnessed evil on both sides of the war. This lead his personal belife to form into the thought that all people, spacenoids, and earthnoids, had universal freedoms that should not be violated. It was these violoations by the Titans that drove him to join the AEUG.
